John cut his teeth as a very young fella on the folk sounds of the 60s and earlier, and quickly developed a powerful range of acoustic guitar techniques, from these finger picking and strumming origins through a lifelong fascination with all manner of modern music as interpreted by an acoustic specialist, whether 6 or 12 string, standard tunings or open, rock, country, bluegrass, blues, folk or whatever.
He was thus ideally placed to make a selection of Back Pocket music, from all of the above song-writers (and one of his own), and to mould this into an excellent set of acoustic interpretations. Talking Tidal River is the product of this project, and it is an album which showcases not only his guitar talents, but also his astonishing range of vocal capability.
